Home Security Systems While Vacationing

Those warm beach breezes are calling your name, but before you leave on your family vacation, you’ll need to secure your home.  While you are enjoying the beach with your toes in the sand of some sandy white beach, your empty home is at risk for theft.  While on your trip you may want to take these steps to help protect your home in your absence.  This may also be a good time to consult with a home security systems Massachusetts company to install a system in your house.

  • Find someone you trust. Let a trusted neighbor or friend know exactly when you will be away and ask if they would keep a look out for any suspicious activity.  Give this person an extra set of keys to the house, cell phone, hotel, or vacation house number, and codes to any home security systems in case of an emergency.
  • Don’t let the home appear deserted. Burglars target homes that look like no one is home.  During the summer, they look for certain tell tale signs that a family is on vacation.  In order to keep your home safe, counteract these signs.  First, ask your trusted neighbor or friend to stop by and pick up your mail.  While your friend is there, ask if they will turn certain lights on or off.  If a friend or neighbor isn’t able to visit the house daily, you can still do something. You can suspend your mail and newspaper delivery.  Then buy and set timers for the lights both inside and outside.  If you are going to be gone longer than a week, it might be a good idea to hire someone to cut the grass.
  • Do a final walk thru. Keep your departure organized by having a list of things to do before you leave.  Do a final walk-through with your list in hand, checking things off as you go.
